Anita Sarkeesian, a Canadian/American media critic is also a public speaking event organizer. Feminist Frequency was founded by Sarkeesian. The site hosts videos featuring commentary and analysis of the representations of women that are prevalent in contemporary culture. Feminist Frequency is a not-for profit site for education that investigates gender representation in popular cultural narratives is founded and directed by Sarkeesian. Aiming to dispel the myths related to women in popular culture, she has also been working on issues related the gender-specific harassment of women as well as different classes of individuals online. Sarkeesian also holds a York University master's in social theological, philosophical and political thought. Apart from being a popular public speaker she has made presentations at TEDxWomen XOXO Conference and United Nations Broadband Working Group. Feminist Frequency was launched in 2009 by Sarkeesian. an undergraduate student at York University who had been fascinated by issues related to gender and feminism for quite a considerable period of period of. The site was created by a woman in her early 20s who wanted to create an online series to examine the how gender is represented in video games. But, she was the target of cyber-bullying. The incident did not deter her, rather it strengthened her determination as a feminist critic of media. Her numerous contributions to the field of feminist have been recognized by numerous awards. Anita Sarkeesian, a media critic, has been awarded several awards and founded Feminist Frequency as an educational nonprofit that studies the ways women are depicted within media narratives.
